Mr. Jeka has worked closely with senior level engineers, material scientists, attorneys, insurance agents and industrial clients in various engineering disciplines throughout his materials engineering career at Argonne National Laboratory, IIT Research institute, Bodycote Testing Group (formerly L.J. Broutman & Associates, Ltd., a premier consulting and testing company) and at an industrial research microscopy and microanalysis laboratory, where he developed a broad engineering background as a skilled generalist, failure analyst and microscopist.

For the last seven years Mr. Jeka has worked as an Engineering Assistant and Analytical Chemist as a contractor at Argonne National Laboratory.  Past project work there involved contributing to a Boriding research project that was granted a R&D 100 Award.  Currently, Mr. Jeka is the manager of an analytical laboratory on a battery research scale-up project, performing XRD, ICP-MS, TGA/DSC-MS, BET, SEM\EDS, and particle size analysis.

Mr. Jeka has a diverse background in materials evaluation and characterization, with areas of expertise  in optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and failure analysis.   He has  experience managing materials failure analysis projects and extensive hands-on experience in litigation and laboratory support.

Mr. Jeka is currently working as a engineering assistant / consultant at Argonne National Laboratory in Process Technology Research in the Energy Systems Division.  He is currently working on an advanced lithium-ion battery materials synthesis and manufacturing research & development program involving the development of production-ready processes for electrode and electrolyte materials. Mr . Jeka performs analytical testing and analyses including SEM/EDS, ICP-MS, XRD, TGA, PSA, BET, materials characterization, coin cell fabrication and performance testing.

Prior to that, Mr. Jeka held a position as a engineering assistant / consultant in the Tribology Group at Argonne.  He worked on a successful industrial ultra-fast boriding furnace scale-up process research & development program that is in the process of being transferred to industry.  Mr. Jeka also worked on research projects related to tribological testing, performed  SEM and optical microscopy, interferometry, hardness testing and designed test fixtures using Solidworks 3D solid modeling software.  Mr. Jeka managed the metallurgical sample preparation laboratory and provided training for new personnel.

Prior to that, Mr. Jeka was working with Packer Engineering in Naperville IL, as an adjunct consultant with the materials department and industrial services group,  while performing contract work as an electron microscopist at BP Amoco, Inorganic Materials Characterization, Microscopy and Microanalysis, North America Analytical Sciences Group in Naperville, IL.   At BP, his responsibilities involved providing in-house failure analysis, microscopy and microanalysis services for root cause and corrective action associated with purified terephthalic acid, fuels, and oil refinery production processes.  Associated material characterization included metals, metal oxides, polymers, catalysts, contaminants and corrosion products.

In addition, Mr. Jeka has consulted on a legal case providing his expertise regarding interpretation of an EDS analysis related to subject evidence involving suspected contaminants on a disposable cigarette lighter.   He has an extensive background in inspection, failure analysis and product testing in this area.  Also, Mr. Jeka has consulted on a failure analysis case related to insulated glass window units with Polyisobutylene adhesive.

Mr. Jeka was employed as a project manager, failure analyst  and  microscopist involved in materials evaluation for over twenty years at L. J. Broutman & Associates / Bodycote Testing Group until the laboratory was closed in July of 2008.  He has worked on hundreds of failure analysis cases involving consumer products, insurance claims, industrial projects, and legal cases, including patent issues.  He has co-authored technical papers on polymers used for implants and another on anisotropy of thermoplastic elastomers.  Prior to working at the Broutman laboratory, Mr. Jeka had nearly a fifteen-year work history at IIT Research Institute in the Mechanics of Materials division where he worked in the laboratory characterizing ceramic materials for high temperature turbine engine applications and performing research on building materials, including experimental concrete, marble cladding, admixtures and soils.

Mr. Jeka has been involved in technical investigations and failure analyses that required the use of many laboratory analysis techniques including; optical microscopy with digital image analysis, fractography, scanning electron microscopy, elemental analysis, non-destructive evaluation, custom testing, fixture design, metallurgical sample preparation, data acquisition, strain gauging, residual stress measurement, field and laboratory inspection, evidence inspection and documentation, flammability, material testing and chemical analysis.
